AIR-INSULATED SUBSTATIONS
SF6 HYBRID SUBSTATIONS
GAS-INSULATED SUBSTATIONS
A hybrid is an advanced electrical substation that combines both conventional air-insulated switchgear (AIS) and gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) technologies to optimize performance, space utilization and cost efficiency. These substations integrate the benefits of both AIS and GIS, allowing for flexibility in design and opertation.
Space Efficiency: hybrid substations can significantly reduce the footprint compared to fully air-insulated designs.
Reliability and Safety: Hybrid substations enhance reliability with GIS components, which are less susceptible to environmental conditions such as pollution and weather. This ensures better operational safety and fewer outages.
Applications: Urban Areas, Industrial Sites, and Renewable Energy Integration.
SF6 gas insulated substations (GIS) use sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) gas as an insulating and arc-quenching medium. They offer several advantages over traditional air-insulated substations (AIS), including compact size, high reliability, low maintenance, and enhanced safety. SF6 GIS is ideal for urban areas and other locations with limited space due to its reduced footprint. However, SF6 is a potent greenhouse gas, so proper handling and disposal are crucial to minimize environmental impact.
Space Efficiency: SF6 gas-insulated substation can reduce footprint where space is at a premium and environmental conditions are challenging.
Industrial Sites: Requiring high reliability and compact design.
Applications: Urban Areas, Industrial Sites, and Renewable Energy Integration. They are increasingly relevant in the context of urbanization and the growing demand for resilient and efficient electrical infrastructure.
Air-insulated substations (AIS) utilize atmospheric air as the primary insulation medium between conductors and components, providing a reliable and cost-effective solution for power distribution. AIS are also known for their robustness, simplicity in design, and ease of maintenance, making them a preferred choice in various electrical grid configuration worldwide.
Lower Initial Costs: AIS typically have lower construction and installation costs compared to GIS, due to the simpler technology and fewer components required.
Operational Safety: The air-insulated design provides good visibility of equipment and operational areas, which can enhance safety during operation and maintenance.
Lower Operational Costs: Due to their simpler technology, AIS typically have lower operational and maintenance costs over their lifetime compared to GIS.
